KABUL (SW): The Dean for the Faculty of Medicine at the Kabul University has closed the faculty for students in protest against the government decision regarding the cardio hospital in the faculty.
The Dean Shirin Agha and his fellow staffers have expressed objections towards the Presidential decree granting the ownership of the cardio hospital to the Ministry of Public Health. He believes protest against this move is a civil right.
He mentioned that the Minister for Higher Education Fareeda Momand has asked the protesting staff to put an end to the boycott and return to classes. The staff however, wants to continue the protest, he asserted.
Dr. Amin Alizai, a faculty member at the Medicine Faculty told Salam Watandar that the protest would go on till all the assets and property of the cardio hospital are granted to the faculty.
Dismayed over the protest and suspension of lectures, a number of students fear this would leave devastating impacts on their academic year. The Ministry of Higher Education has designated a committee to look into the matter.
It is worth noting that the assets and property of this cardio hospital were granted to the faculty of medicine during the previous government.
