JALALABAD (SW): National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) authorities said the factory activities in Jalalabad city the capital of Nangarhar have polluted the air.
Nangarhar is home to more than 250 factories. At least 200 of such factories are located in and around the Jalalabad city.
Fazle Rabi Hamim, director for the provincial chapter of NEPA, talking to Salam Watandar said the activities of big and small factories have polluted the air in the city. According to him, the provincial chapter of NEPA has distributed pamphlets on the protection of the environment to the factories.
Residents of the city have said aside from pollution created by the vehicles, emissions from the factories have caused several diseases in the city. According to the residents, noise pollution has also contributed to people’s problems.
Shir Ahmad Amlawal, director of provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said lack of security has forced factories to shift to cities.
Nangarhar province has two industrial areas. One of the industrial areas is completely shut down while the other one is semi-functional.
