HERAT CITY (SW): Officials in the western Herat province has said that disagreements between Mullah Samad and Mullah Nangyalai, two Taliban commanders in Shindand district, have caused infighting between the Taliban fighters.
Ehsanullah Hayat, Spokesman for Herat’s governor, told SalamWatandar that the intense fighting flared up around 5 in the morning today (Monday) in Zir Koh village between the two commanders’ fighters and the fighting still continues.
He said according to some reports they have received, Mullah Samad has lost 6 men while Mullah Nangyalai has lost 5 in the fighting so far and 10 more have been injured from both sides.
A security official in Herat, who did not wish to be named, told Salam Watandar that Mullah Samad, Taliban’s incumbent district chief in Shindand has also been killed in the fighting.
According to the reports, infightings between Taliban have recently increased.
Last week, as a result of armed fighting between Taliban groups in Queeta, Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor, Taliban new leader, was reportedly injured.
There have been reports that Mullah Mansoor lost his life in it prompting the Taliban to appoint Mullah Habatullah AKhondzada as the acting Taliban leader.
Taliban however, denied the news of Mullah Mansoor’s injury and death in a statement.
The Spokesman for Herat’s governor has said that disagreements between Taliban fighters hit its peak following the news of Mullah Mansoor’s injury.
Taliban have yet to comment on the incident.
