KABUL (SW) – The rate of exports from Afghanistan increased by 38 percent in the first 8 months of the current year, officials announced in a press conference on Monday.
Ajmal Hameed Abdul Raheemzii, deputy minister at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said Afghanistan exported goods worth $ 447 million this year so far. He added the bulk of exports comprised of fresh and dry fruits, carpets, herbal medicine and gemstones.
He noted in a year before, the exports stood at $ 169 million.
Meanwhile, Abdul Raheemzai announced the Lapis Lazuli trade corridor with Europe would be utilized for trial import and export in few weeks’ time. He said Afghan carpets and gemstones will be among maiden shipments to Turkey and Holland.
