KANDAHAR (SW): Officials at the Kandahar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), said the exports of Kandahar pomegranates have increased significantly this year compared to previous years.
Abdul Baqi Bina, Deputy Director of KCCI, told Salam Watandar that last year 14750 tons of pomegranates were exported, which now reached 22769 tons (35 percent increase).
Bina said that, mainly pomegranates were exported to Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, India and the United States of America this year, and the money earned from the exports of this fruit amounted to 4,600,000 USD.
According to Bina, the reason for the increase in the export of Kandahar’s pomegranates has been the improvement in the quality and co-operation of the government.
Kandahar gardeners, said that if cold storages and beverage factories are built for the pomegranates of this province, then their pomegranate products will not be damaged soon and on the other hand, juices will be produced using pomegranates that cannot be kept.
