Experts: Afghanistan’s position towards Pakistan was sentimental

27/09/2015

KABUL(SW): A number of political analysts pointing out to the government’s position at the United Nations General Assembly towards Pakistan, said that the government position was to some extent sentimental.

They believed that the government has also not taken a proper position regarding the recent terrorist attacks in the country.

Chief Executive Officer, Abdullah Abdullah, declined Pakistan’s demand for talks about the ties between the two countries on the sideline of United Nation’s General Assembly.

A top government official who didn’t wish to be named, told Salamwatandar that Afghanistan government asked Pakistan officially to counter terrorism honestly or otherwise it would face political isolation.

Moheb Sahrif, a political analyst, said that the government did not take a proper approach and suffered because of the immature foreign policy.

Pointing out to the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s remarks on boycotting Pakistani medicine as well as CEO’s move declining Pakistan’s demand for talk, Sharifi said that both leaders’ reactions indicated the same position towards Pakistan.

He added that President Ghani, in the first months of his government crossed the red line of diplomacy and visited Pakistan Army and Inter-Services Intelligence agency’s headquarters, something former President Hamid Karzai did not do.

Mohammad Nateqi, a political expert, said that the two leaders tried in their first 11 months to attract Pakistan’s attention for improving the ties between the two countries but Pakistan did not cooperate and spared the efforts.

He said that the Fatwa issued by Pakistani religious scholars on allowing attacks in Afghanistan could have been the reason for Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah to reject Pakistan’s demands for talks.

He added that the new position Afghanistan has taken towards Pakistan would be harmful.

He further added that Pakistan as a harbor for terrorists was under world’s pressure.

Political experts said that Afghanistan with full honesty and facilities wanted to cooperate with Pakistan in eradicating terrorism but Pakistan played double game, which led to dent the ties between the two countries.

Yesterday, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that peace was people’s right and added that Afghanistan would never plead for it from a position of weakness.
