KABUL (SW) – A survey by the Ministry of Public Health indicates that every other citizen in the country is facing psychological disorders of different sorts.
The MoPH officials told a moot in this connection that 110 psychiatrists have been trained to deal with this situation.
Fida Mohammad Faikan, director health services at the MoPH, said on the occasion there were only two therapists in 2006, but the number of psychiatrists providing services has now crossed 100. He added up to 750 more consultants have been appointed nationwide recently.
In the meantime, Dr. Emal Safi, a psychiatrist at the Sehet Hospital, said up to 400 patients are visiting for treatment on daily basis. He said many patients with serious conditions are hospitalized while the rest are discharged after treatment.
Domestic problems, strained lifestyle, ragging war and poverty were marked as the main reasons behind growing number of people with psychological disorders in the country.
