KABUL (SW): Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon, the new European Union Head of Delegation to Afghanistan, has said 200 million Euros have been provided to the Ministry of Finance for reforms drive.
The Ambassador told a moot in Kabul on Wednesday the EU is also keen in helping strengthen democracy in Afghanistan besides supporting reconstruction and development projects. He added the EU is ready to provide financial and technical assistance for holding elections in the country. Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon also reiterated support for the peace process in Afghanistan.
The European Union Head of Delegation to Afghanistan mentioned the set target of around 2 per cent GDP growth in the national budget is not suffiecient in creating job opportunities, but after the era of double-digit growth during the presence of over one hundred foreign troops, the EU is ready to support economic growth in Afghanistan.
About the repatriating Afghan refugees from EU, Pakistan and Iran, he said efforts are underway to properly re-integrate them in the society with housing projects and skill development courses. He also underlined the importance of the Resolute Support Mission in training Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF).
