23/02/2017

KABUL (SW): A delegation of the European Parliament visiting Afghanistan made it clear on Thursday corruption in the country would no longer be tolerated.

After meetings with the top government officials, the two members of the EU parliamentarians held a press conference at the EU Compound in Kabul. Petras Austrevicius, Lithuanian member of the EU Parliament, said effective results from the Afghan government are needed in regard to countering corruption. He added economic development, good governance, improved policing and combating corruption are the main priorities of the EU in Afghanistan.

Herbert Dorfmann, Italian member of the EU Parliament, said jobs should be created in Afghanistan for the migrants returning from the EU to ensure successful repatriation of the migrants. “We do understand the social and economic problems of the Afghan people, our new agreement with the Afghan government highlights the issues of economic development and stability”, added the EU parliamentarian.
