KABUL (SW): Officials at the Electoral Reform Commission (ERC) said that the finalized recommendations packages of the commission would be presented to the Chief Executive Office tomorrow Monday.
Siddiqullah Tawhidi, Deputy at ERC told Salam Watandar that amending the electoral system, amending election zones and establishing a transparent committee, were the three recommendations which President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani earlier sent to the commission to be further considered.
Tawhidi added that over the past 5 months, the commission has discussed all reforms issues with the election experts as a result which a finalized plan was developed based on the given deadline.
Tawhidi further said that the commission in addition to the three recommendations, have recommended consideration of the upcoming presidential elections and holding provincial council elections.
It is worth mentioning that a while ago the commission presented its first 10 recommendations package to the government out of which the President approved 7 of the recommendations and issued a decree on establishing a selection committee.
Abdul Rauf Ebrahimi, Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga, called the beginning of selection committee work as unconstitutional.
Earlier he had said that the decree issued by the President about the authority of the commission have not been approved or rejected by the parliament yet and thus establishing the selection committee is unconstitutional.
