KABUL (SW) – The interior ministry on Saturday confirmed killing of a member of the elite Presidential Protection Service in Kabul.
The interior ministry spokesman, Tareq Aryan said the PPS guard was gunned down by unknown attackers in the Paghman district last evening. The slain guard has been identified as Qiyammudin Maqsodi. He added one other member of the elite force sustained injuries in the attack.
The interior ministry has launched investigations into the killing.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.
The U.S. Embassy in Kabul has condemned the killing. “We mourn with Qeyam Maqsoudi’s family and his comrades in the Presidential Protection Service. We call for his killers to be brought to justice. The PPS has lost a capable security professional and a true patriot. Afghanistan will miss his bravery and heroism,” the U.S. Embassy in Kabul said in a statement.
