KABUL (SW) – The Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan has termed the announcement of partial results of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) polls as counter-productive.
Yosuf Rasheed, chief executive of FEFA, told Salam Watandar the Independent Election Commission has been undermining rules and regulations right from the start of the electoral process. He charged the IEC for altering the timetable, holding the polls for two days and finally announcing partial results of different provinces.
Meanwhile, Kubra Rezaey, deputy spokesperson for the IEC, has clarified that the electoral commission has held the polls under difficult circumstances. She added these moves are part of the efforts to ensure transparency in polls.
Article 85 of the Election Laws states that the initial results of the polls should be announced partially with regard to polling stations and constituencies.
However, Ali Reza Rouhani, spokesman for the Independent Election Complaint Commission, has stressed that the IEC has failed to convince the complaint commission about the announcement of partial provincial results.
The IEC has so far announced initial results from at least 20 provinces. A number of candidates have protested against these results.
