KABUL (SW): The Electoral Reforms Commission (ERC) has submitted its proposals for transparent elections to the Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.
Shah Sultan Akefi, Head of the Commission, said on Sunday that the recommendations were tabled at the CE Office in line with the rules. He said this was the preliminary task of the commission.
Akefi added that reforms in the electoral system, identifying election zones based on the population and providing a list of voters based on their identity included the recommendations. He added easy access to voting centers, reforms in appointment officials and cost cutting were also among the recommendations.
Tadamichi Yamamoto, United Nation’s representative to the ERC dubbed the recommendations as a great step forward towards institutionalizing democracy in Afghanistan. He added that reforms in the election system would significantly help restore people’s trust in election process.
The Chief Executive thanked the ERC for comprehensive study. Abdullah said efforts of this body would be remembered for long.
