Electoral campaign transforms landscape of Herat

29/09/2018

HERAT CITY (SW) – Intense electoral campaign by the candidates for the forthcoming Wolesi Jirga (lower house) has transformed the landscape of Herat province.

Electoral posters and other campaign material can also be seen on private homes and even on roadside trees.  Herat residents have been irked by this violation of the electoral code and tempering with the city landscape by the candidates. They demand the government to be vigilant and take action.

Meanwhile, Jailani Farhad, spokesman for the governor, has stressed such use of electoral material is a clear violation of the code chalked out by the Independent Election Commission. He said in collaboration with the Herat Municipality, efforts would be ensured to keep the city clean.

Mohammad Dawood Anwari, mayor of Herat, has vowed all electoral material   tarnishing the image of the city would be removed.
