KABUL (SW) – The election observers on Tuesday dubbed the lack of a clear voter list as one of the grim concerns in connection with the presidential elections.
Officials from the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan and the Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan held a joint press conference in this connection. They said that the Independent Election Commission has no preparations in place for holding presidential elections in a transparent, comprehensive, and acceptable manner.
Mohammad Naeem Ayubzada, the head of TEFA, said the electoral commissions, the government and the international community have not taken these concerns seriously, which means the polls would not take place transparently on Sep. 28.
However, the election commission's secretary-general, Habibur Rahman Nang, has said the commission is fully prepared to hold transparent, comprehensive and open elections on the time.
The election observers have acknowledged the shortage of time, but they stressed if the election commission, international community and the Afghan government as well as the presidential candidates work together and honestly, the polls can be held successfully.
This comes as Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Monday warned people would not tolerate repeat of the ‘catastrophe’ of the 2014 elections.
Some 18 candidates are running for the polls scheduled for Sep. 28 later this year.
