KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Public Health organized an urgent meeting to fight and prevent the transmission of the coronavirus after the Iranian media announced the death toll of 10 victims in the city of Qom.
In a press release issued today, Minister of Public Health, Firouzuddin Firoz ordered officials at air ports, borders and dry ports, especially in the country's western provinces – Herat, Nimroz and Farah – to launch action plans to prevent the spread of the virus. Firoz said they have also launched training programs to protect doctors from the virus.
The Ministry of Public Health has announced the deployment of health teams in the border regions and provinces with Iran. It announced to have taken necessary measures to prevent the virus from spreading.
On Thursday, Iranian media reported that the number of victims of the coronavirus in the country has reached to ten.
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus in China, the death toll has exceeded 2,000. In less than a month, more than 6,000 people worldwide have been infected with the virus, with 99% of the victims being Chinese citizens, according to international media.
In the early days of the outbreak in China, the Minister of Public Health requested urgent help from the World Health Organization to prevent the outbreak and fight the virus in Afghanistan.
