JALALABAD (SW): At least 13 civilians have been reported dead and 17 more wounded due to a drone strike in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday night.
A local who wished not to be named in the report said that the drone hit residential compound in the Achin district. The compound is said to be belonging to a local elder Haji Raes. The locals had gathered there to welcome Raes on returning from Haj when the drone hit them. Raes is said to be among those wounded in the attack.
A commander of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) in the area has confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor while confirming civilian casualties, told Salam Watandar that a number of pro-Daes rebels have been killed and wounded in this attack. The NATO-led Resolute Support Mission is yet to comment on this.
