Dream come true for Rashid and Nabi at CPL

06/08/2017

KABUL (SW): Rising Afghan spin bowler Rashid Khan and all-rounder Mohammad Nabi have finally joined their maiden Caribbean Premier League (CPL) encounter.

In their first match, both performed well, but failed to take any wicket. Nabi was on the pitch when his side the St Kitts clinched a victory against Rashid’s Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) by four wickets.

After winning the toss, the St Kitts captain asked GAW to bat first. They were restricted to 123 in the given 20 overs with opener Chadoyak Walton the top scorer with his half-century. Chasing it, the St Kitts batsmen managed to achieve the target in 19 overs with the loss of six wickets. Nabi scored five runs of the six balls he faced.

Mohammad Nabi made history when he became the first players from Afghanistan to be picked in the 2017 CPL draft. The former captain was picked up by St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots for USD 90,000 in the fourth round of the draft and was closely followed by team-mate Rashid Khan, who was taken in the sixth round for USD 60,000 by Guyana Amazon Warriors.

This is the third lucrative league after Indian Premier League (IPL) and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the two Afghan cricketers to play.
