MAIMANA (SW): Vice President Gen. Abdul Rasheed Dostum surrived a militant attack on his convoy in the northern Faryab province, a close aide of the VP said on Friday.
Masoud Ahmad Masoud, a deputy of Dostum’s Junbish Mili Party (JMP) that is busy fighting the armed rebels in the north said that the incident took place in Qaisar district. Masoud added Dostum’s convoy was passing through Do Aabi district when the attack took place.
He said Dostum’s tank was hit by few bullets but all in all no serious damage was done. Four Taliban got killed and seven more were arrested, he said. Rehmatullah Qaisari, the district chief however, claimed six militants have been killed. Dostum has been heading anti-militant drive in the north for nearly a month now.
Meanwhile, Gen. Ghulam Haidari, spokesman for the 209-Shaheen Corps told reporters 15 rebels that included two Uzbekistanis have been eliminated on Friday. He said a joint operation was launched in Qaisar’s Chahar Shanba areas.
