KABUL/ MAIMANA (SW): Following the surge in militancy in northern Faryab and adjacent provinces, Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum has geared-up for all out clean-up operation in the north, close aide of the VP said.
Inayatullah Babar, a parliamentarian from the Jawzjan province told SW that VP was busy finalizing plans with the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. This close aide of the VP added that after consultations with the National Security Council, Dostum would lead the operation that would include personnel from the Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ALP) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS).
“God willingly, in two days the operation would commence”, he said. Babar added that so far, the militants were given time to give-up arms join the peace process.
Abdul Ghafoor Gardezi, security analysts cautiously welcomed the move. He said the operation would help clear the area of militants but it should not be molded to accumulate strength and form local militias.
Lately, Gen. Dostum and acting governor Balkh Atta Mohammad Noor joined hands to take on the militants in the north.
