KABUL (SW): Dawlat Waziri, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense has clarified that Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qadam Shah Shaheen was heading the fresh offensives in the north.
Earlier, Babur Farahmand, a Wolesi Jirga (lower house) member and close aide to Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum claimed Dostum was heading the operation.
Waziri told journalists in Kabul that General Dostum’s presence in the north boosts security forces’ morale and make the militants to join peace process. He was flanked by Siddique Siddqui, the Ministry of Interior Spokesman who briefed the press about internal security affairs
Abdul Satar Barez, deputy governor Faryab told SW that military forces have carried out aerial attacks on militants’ hideouts during the past 24 hours in Qarayaee village, Almar district.
He added that as a result of the attack around 18 armed militants including foreign fighters were killed and 9 others were wounded.
Mr.Barez added that three Taliban commanders Abdul Rahim, Mullah Wakil and Mustafa were also among those killed in the operation.
Both the spokesmen noted that the findings of investigation into foreign forces’ airstrike in Logar that led to the death of 7 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers will soon be made public.
