MAIMANA (SW): Parallel to the ongoing “Shamsher-7” military operation in the northern Faryab province, Vice President Gen. Abdul Rasheed Dostum has been advancing with another anti-terrorist operation “Almaas”, an official said on Friday.
The VP joined the Afghan National Army (ANA) on the frontline in the Uzbek heartland of the country weeks ago. His presence was deemed crucial to lift the moral of government forces in the wake of suring Daesh-Taliban nexus in the north.
Mohammad Raza Razai, spokesman for the 209-Shaheen Corps told SW that the “Almaas” offensives have driven militants out of Qaisar district in Faryab. He added over 100 villages have be cleansed so far. Razai claimed 24 armed rebels have been killed and eight more wounded while one security man lost life.
“We have cleansed Taliban insurgents from most parts of Qaisar in these offensives”, Dostum has said. He added most of the rebels eliminated in the past 24 hours were Chechen, Arab and Uzbekistanis.
The ANA is also busy demining the heavily mined areas in the north. Meanwhile, in a bid to siege the fleeing militants, another parallel operation has been launched in the neighboring Badghis province. Some 60 rebels fleeing Faryab were killed in Badghis on Thursday.
Also, similar operation has been kicked-off in the Baghlan province with the help of some 700 secuirty men. Gen. Abdul Jabbad, Baghlan Security Chief told SW that various districts have already been cleansed. He claimed to have killed at least 13 armed rebels in the past 24 hours.
