PL-I-ALAM (SW): Electoral material has not reached Logar’s Azara, Sarkh and Kharwar districts days after the launch of the process, officials said on Monday.
Abdul Wali Wakil, member of the provincial council, informed Salam Watandar the Independent Election Commission (IEC) has not sent necessary electoral material to these districts, and in the rest of the districts no one has registered. He stressed efforts must be ensured to provide security to the electoral staff in these districts so that people can take part in the process.
Lutfullah Stanikzai, a local civil society activist, said in this regard the locals would stage widespread protests if electoral material is not dispatched to Azara, Sarkh and Kharwar districts soon. He added despite fragile security situation, the Logar residents are determined to take part in the polls.
On the other end, Anwar Khan Ishaqzai, provincial governor, informed up to 25,000 potential voters have registered with the IEC here so far. Acknowledging the fragile security situation, the governor said efforts are underway to remove the obstacles hindering the registration drive.
The IEC had extended the registration drive for a month, but the locals hope snail-paced drive might results in an another extension of the deadline.
