PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW): The Taliban attacked Tala Barfak district in northern Baghlan province on Friday evening that lasted for several hours.
Local officials have said that the district has 30 security personnel, which are not enough and if the militants mounted another attack, they would easily overrun the district.
Faiz Mohammad Amiri, the district chief in Tala Barfak, told Salam Watandar that 4 militants were killed in the fighting and 7 more were injured.
He said that the fighting has stopped but if the militants attacked again, the district would fall to the militants due to the lack of security personnel stationed there.
Abdul Satar Barez, governor of Baghlan, has said that they would not allow the district to fall to the insurgents.
He said that the security forces are not alone and nearly 200 local uprising forces stand by them to fight against the Taliban.
Noor Habib Gulbahari, the police chief in the province, said that the security in the district is directly related to the residents’ cooperation with the security forces.
The militants conducted an offensive five months ago in a bid to capture the district, which they succeeded and ruled the district for 20 days but were finally expelled after the security forces launched an operation.
