KHOST CITY (SW): A whole district in Khost province is administered from a single container office located in the provincial capital’s Matoon Wargha hill.
From a distance, this container placed on this hill site seems like a grocery shop, but it actually is the administration office for restive Qalanadar district. Residents of this district are facing a surging violence and ragging tribal feuds in the absence of a proper district administration.
Qazi Mohammad, a resident of Qalandar district, informed Salam Watandar, the locals are facing hardships obtaining identity cards, resolving legal matters and accessing other public services due to the absence of administration compound.
He urged the government to take immediate measures towards bringing back the district administration from Matoon Wargha hill to Qalandar itself so that the long over-due development projects are executed here for which funds are already frozen in bank accounts.
Jamil Shah, the district governor for Qalandar, informed that due to lack of proper roads and other facilities, he has no other choice but to administer the district form provincial capital’s Matoon Wargha hill area. The district governor lamented that repeated calls for road construction in Qalandar have fallen on deaf ears.
Sher Badsha, deputy governor for Khost, said in this regard that lack of proper roads and administration compound are main obstacles hindering moving the administration back to where it belongs. He added the issue has been discussed with the Kabul government, but nothing has been done to resolve this issue.
Situated at a distance of less than 40 mile from the provincial capital Khost city, Qlandar district lacks proper health facilities and other services.
