KABUL (SW): The documents that Salam Watandar has obtained, shows the government is planning to put the office for electronic identity cards on hold for indefinite time.
Seddiq Seddiqi, the spokesman of the Ministry of Interior has told Salam Watandar the electronic E-cards distribution is an important task for government, but due to decline in foreign aid and lack of budget; the government is compelled to abandon this work.
The countries that were supporting the project, had already announced that if the distribution of E-cards did not commence in time, they would stop their support.
Distribution of the E-cards was one of the fundamental promises of the Government of National Unity.
Some of the analysts believe that without the E-cards, it would be impossible for the government to organize fair and independent election.
It was predicted that on 19 August 2015 distribution of the E-cards would commence but for some unclear reasons President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani ordered to hold it.
According to the officials associated with this project, some 500 thousand people-most of them government employee-had registered themselves to take part in the E-cards distribution.
Fayazuddin Ghayasi, Spokesman for the Office of E-cards, told Salam Watandar that the employee were anxous over the delay.
He feared many people would lose job if the work is halted for long. Salam Watandar wished to obtain view of the Arg (Presidential Palace) over it but to no avail.
