BAMYAN CITY (SW): A number of students and teachers in central Bamyan province have expressed concerns over dissolution of Dari and Sociology departments.
Sharifa Mohammadi, a 12th Grade student who was willing to enroll at the Bamyan University, has now dropped the idea as the department of her choice is no more there. She has urged the concerned officials to reinstate the dissolved departments, and add a couple of more departments that has demand among the students.
Abdul Hameed Ibrahimi, a student at the Dari department in the university in the morning shift, has pronounced the dissolution of Dari and Sociology departments in the evening as a big loss.
Meanwhile, Masooma Khawari, Chancellor for the Bamyan University, told Salam Watandar that lack of budget from the Ministry of Higher Education has compelled them to close these two departments in the evening. She however, stressed that soon these departments would be re-established.
The teacher community and students however, want the Ministry of Higher Education and the University officials not to ‘impose’ faculties of their choice upon the students. Ruhullah Danishyar, chairman for the Dari department in the Bamyan University, said in this regard that the interest for Dari literature in this part of the country is very high.
Some 550 students are likely to join this year’s university entrance examinations “Kankoor”. At the moment, some 1600 students are enrolled in the Bamyan University’s Dari department, a majority of them are government employees.
