CHARIKAR (SW): Tens of disabled people gathered in Charikar on Saturday to protest against the government’s inaction towards meeting their demands.
The protesters said they used to receive up to AFN 60, 000 every year, but this year they received only AFN 30, 000, which is ‘unacceptable’. Abdul Samad, a war victim, said the set rules of the Ministry of Labor, Social Welfare and Martyrs clearly states that anyone who is 60 per cent disable can claim full compensation, the rest can claim half of it, but the government has now cut the compensation for all disable people.
Mohammad Saboor, another disabled man, said only those disabled people living in Parwan are facing the cuts in compensation amount.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor, Social Welfare and Martyrs in Parwan has said the deductions are in line with a research conducted in the province. Wakil Ahmad, the director for the department of Labor, Social Welfare and Martyrs, has said the documents of those protesting against the move would be re-assessed for final verdict.
Besides the mounting figures of civilians’ casualties, the ragging violence in Afghanistan has also left thousands of people disabled who rely on government aid for survival.
