KABUL (SW) – The complaint commission of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) has referred the director road transport, Shaikh Ahmad Mateen to the Attorney General’s office over corruption charges.
Head of the commission, Mohammad Sadeq Qaderi, told journalists here on Sunday that multiple complaints have been lodged at the WJ against the road transport directorate, and some transporters have even produced credible evidence in this connection. He added Shaikh Ahmad Mateen, head of the road transport directorate, has defied on multiple occasions the parliament’s calls for clarification.
Head of the WJ commission said the clarification provided by Mateen to a parliamentary delegation was not satisfactory.
Tila Mohammad Otmanzay, head of the transporters’ alliance, said Mateen has been resisting to renew their necessary documents under different pretexts. He added transporters are forced to pay thousands of afghanis on different customs points against fake receipts, but the revenue does not make it to the national kitty.
Meanwhile, the transport ministry spokesman, Ali Sena Sahel, has urged the WJ to present documented proofs to back these allegations. He added the toll taxes are not received in cash anymore, but through smart transactions to banks via card hence there are no chances of corruption.
