KABUL (SW) – Delegates at the intra-Afghan talks in Doha, Qatar have said the negotiations began on Tuesday evening between the two parties.
Mohammad Amin Ahmadi, a member of the negotiating team of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Qatar, told Salam Watandar that the talks would be co-chaired by heads of the two teams.
He said the Taliban delegation is trying to make it difficult for the Afghan government's negotiating team in the peace talks, but they continued to strive to achieve their goal of peace.
Mohammad Naeem, a spokesman for the Taliban's political office in Qatar, said the decision to hold the first meeting of the Intra-Afghan peace talks was made at a meeting of the contact groups on Monday.
“Like yesterday, the contact committees of intra-Afg negotiation teams had a meeting today (Monday) after Maghrib (evening) prayer and again discussed the focal principles and schedule of the next meetings, and furthermore, agreed on the readiness of the general meeting which will be held tomorrow (Tuesday)”, he tweeted.
"Making peace may seem complicated, but it is possible," the State Ministry for Peace tweeted.
Meanwhile, US special envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad met with the Pakistan Army chief on Monday to discuss the ongoing intra-Afghan peace talks. The intra-Afghan peace talks being held in Doha, Qatar aim at ending the 18-year war in Afghanistan
