GHAZNI (SW): Authorities in Ghazni province have said the central prison in the province infringes prisoner rights.
Abdul Karim Matin, the provincial governor, expressed concerns over the conditions of the cells as they are humid and occupied by 14 to 20 prisoners. While visiting the prison on Sunday, the provincial governor said the prison building is not up to the standards.
Aminullah Amarkhil, provincial police chief, has said an ammount of 70 afghanis is allocated to feed each prisoner in a day which is not adequate. Amarkhil urged the government to transfer the prison's charge to the provincial police for security reasons.
The prisoners have also complained about the 'inhumane' conditions in the cells, and lack of nutrition, health and hygiene facilities.
According to the officials, the prison was built some 60 years ago in line with the demands of those days.
