“Differences within the government could damage nation-building process”

28/06/2016

KABUL (SW): A number of political analysts pointing out to the recent criticism voiced by the First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, said that such remarks could cause mistrust among the citizens and would affect the nation-building process in Afghanistan.

The First Vice President said a day earlier that the President and the Chief Executive Officer have divided the power among themselves and have marginalized him.

Mohibullah Zegham, a political analyst, criticizing the VP’s remarks told Salam Watandar that such stance by the leaders in the country could lead to mistrust among Afghans and could damage the unity among different ethnic groups in the country.

He said that the government’s leaders should solve their differences among themselves before it leaks to the media otherwise the political opposition could exploit them.

Latif Nazari, another analyst, however said that the recent remarks by the VP indicate that the system of governance might just fall down if differences within the National Unity Government continue to exist.

He believed that as long as  the political structure in the country is ethno-centric, the country would continue to be grappled with challenges in terms of nation building.
