
PUL-I-ALAM (SW): A key religious scholar was shot dead by armed assailants in Logar early on Monday.
Mawlawi Abdul Ghafoor was the deputy head of provincial Ulema Council in Logar province. According to a statement issued by the provincial government, Mawlawi Abdul Ghafoor faced the attack on his way to mosque in Ewaz Qala area of Kulangar district early on Monday.
Police have started investigations into the incident, but so far no arrests have been made. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack. Saleem Saleh, spokesman for the governor, Salam Watandar unknown armed men hiding their faces shot Mawlawi Ghafoor in front of a mosque. "The enemies of the country, Islam and the enemies of Afghans are behind these attacks, our security", the governor's spokesman added.
