JALALABAD (SW): A number of Nangarhar residents took to the streets on Tuesday against the alleged killing of civilians in an operation by the Afghan Special Forces.
A well-placed government source told Salam Watandar that the ASF conducted a night raid in the 20 Wyalay area of the Momand Dara district in which seven civilians reportedly got killed. The protesters blocked the Jalalabad – Torkham highway in the Momand Dara district during the demonstration. They also demanded release of some civilians allegedly taken away by the security forces.
The protesters informed Salam Watandar that the victims have allegedly been shot dead while asleep at their home. The source informed the people killed in this raid included sons and nephews of a local elder Haji Mado.
Meanwhile, Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, has only acknowledged that a night raid was conducted in the Momand Dara district. He said a team has been sent to the area to investigate the matter thoroughly.
