KABUL (SW) – Reports suggest the Taliban would not publically declare ceasefire, but would quietly implement it.
This comes after media reports suggested that the Taliban leadership has reached a consensus in regard to implementing a ceasefire in the country.
When contacted, Assadullah Zairi, spokesman for the High Peace Coucnil, said the government has presented declaration of ceasefire as a condition for the start of formal peace talks. He said it is important that the Taliban publically announce it.
Commenting on this, Syed Akbar Aagha, a former Taliban-era official said the insurgents are talking about reduction of violence that can be understood as undeclared ceasefire. He added this seems, the Taliban are seeking to informally implement ceasefire, which means reduction in violence.
Akbar Aagha confirmed the Taliban have prepared a list of some 5000 inmates in prisons across Afghanistan, and this would be shared during the proposed intra-Afghan peace talks.
The HPC spokesman confirmed the government has asked the Taliban to provide list of its inmates.
