PARWAN (SW) – Bashir Ahmad Rasuli is a 32-year-old policeman from Parwan province who has defused more than 2,000 landmines in his professional career so far.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, Rasuli said he has survived landmine blasts on various occasions during services in Balkh, Kapisa and Parwan provinces.
He is currently serving as head of the engineering department at the police headquarters in Parwan. With unwavering dedication towards his service, the country and people, Rasuli has been proudly saving lives by defusing deadly hidden landmines.
Afghanistan is one of the world’s most mined countries where thousands of people suffer because of these deadly devices on yearly basis.
Young Rasuli said though he studied law and political science, but interest in the security sector since childhood compelled him to join the ranks of police. He said many deadly incidents made him think about quitting his job, but he never surrendered, and kept saving lives by defusing mines.
This father of three children said he feels proud every time when he manages to successfully defuse a mine and safeguard people from its destruction. The young deminer said he has so far defused more than 2000 landmines.
Based on the reports by security officials, the relative low death rate among soldiers and policemen in Parwan is due to the robust demining activity here.
