KABUL (SW) – Mohammad Umer Daudzai, secretary for the High Peace Council, has said debate over peace delegates for the proposed talks with the Taliban is no more a top government priority.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said the High Consultative Council for Peace held three sessions so far, and it lacked consensus among members.
The HPC secretary said the government is now entirely focused on holding the Loya Jirga (grand consultative session) for peace. He said the government’s stance on peace would be made clear after that.
Shah Hussain Murtazawi, deputy spokesman for the president, has clarified the government would send a peace delegation to Qatar for talks when the public concerns are addressed in this connection.
The intra-Afghan conference for peace was set to be held in Doha on 19 – 21 April, but differences over the size of the peace delegation comprising some 250 people caused its postponement.
