BADGHES (SW) – Dearth of professional doctors and resources in Badghes province has forced many needy residents to travel miles away to Herat for treatment.
A number of residents told Salam Watandar the situation is very grim, many patients lose their lives on the long way to Herat. They urged the government, particularly the Ministry of Public Health, to take effective steps in improving the situation.
Meanwhile, Abdul Lateef Rostaey, director public health, has acknowledged the issues. He said applications have been sought for the vacant positions, but no one has applied so far. He said the public hospital needs at least two specialists in four fields, but currently only one is available for each.
