KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Public Welfare (MoPW) on Tuesday inked deals with private firms for construction of main roads in four provinces.

The project partially supported by the government of Japan would see roads constructed in the capital Kabul, Maidan Wardak, Parwan and Farah provinces. Yama Yari, interim minister at the MoPW, said on the occasion that the main road for Shakar Dara district in Kabul along with 90 bridges would be completed in the coming 17 months.

The minister said the second road construction project would be implemented in Maidan Wardak province. He said the Dahan-e-Abdara road in Maidan Wardak would cost up to $ 209 million. The third road under this project would be constructed in Farah province’s Bagh Pul Joey Ghulaman area costing $ 331 million. In Parwan province, the road would be constructed in the Dara-e-Surkh area.

The MoPW officials informed a number of boundary walls would also be constructed alongside these roads creating jobs for hundreds of people.

A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) and provincial council members urged upon the local communities to support such development projects in their localities.
