GHAZNI CITY (SW): Ferydoon who was a brick-mason before, suddenly decided to join police and fight the militants in Andar district, Ghazni province but was slaughtered by the rebels.
It was after a month that his family learned that he was killed by the Taliban after he ‘sold’ a police checkpoint to them.
Ferydoon’s sister asserts that although his brother, who was just 19-year old, lost his life serving the country, but the government has alleged that he dealt with the Taliban and betrayed the government. His parents noted that their son had never picked a gun before embarking to Ghazni to fight the militants. Haroon, his brother, said that Ferydoon was sent to the most restive districts in Ghazni to fight on the frontline without receiving any basic military training.
It was after a gap of 20 days when he made a phone call to his uncle and told him that he has been captured by the militants. His uncle decided to send tribal elders along with some money to Ghazni in a bid to rescue him.
His uncle told Salam Watandar that Ferydoon called again in two days and said that he has escaped from captivity. The next day, his dead body was found on the outskirts of Ghazni City.
His family travelled to Ghazni to identify him. His mother recognized him but Ghazni Police Department wanted to send the dead body to Kabul forensic. They told his family that their son was alive and that the dead body was someone else’s.
Finally Kabul forensic identified the dead body and pass it to the family.
Amin Shah, a mason himself, said that Ferydoon told them he would go to Ghazni to earn more money since the money he earned was not sufficient for his family.
Najib a friend of Ferydoon who took Ferydoon to join police ranks in Ghazni, said that he too did not receive any basic military trainings. He said that he and his four other comrades were trained for 20 days and were sent to the security checkpoints in Ghazni.
Najib mentioned the name of an officer who encouraged a number of youth to joint police forces.
This officer told SalamWatandar that he has been working as a police officer in Andar district for 8 months now and has not received any military training.
Gen. Aminullah Amarkhyl, Police Chief in Ghazni, said that commander of Andar district was to be blame for all these issues. He said that the commander recruited Ferydoon in Andar district without giving him any training.
Amarkhyl added that when Taliban conducted offensive on police checkpoint in Andar, the commander had left for his house and was not there.
Ferydoon picked-up a gun and shot dead one of his comrades.
Quoting an injured soldier, Amarkhyel said that after shooting his comrades, Ferydoon escaped and joined the Taliban.
He said that currently Ferydoon’s case about selling the police checkpoint to the militants is under investigation at the Attorney General Office in Ghazni.
Abdul Qahar, a security official, told Salam Watandar that their initial findings suggest that Ferydoon was involved in selling the checkpoint to the Taliban but it was not clear why they have killed him.
He added that the commander of the checkpoint was also involved in selling the checkpoint, which is currently in custody of police.
Ferydoon’s family said that he was the only one who supported the family and lost his life for serving the country so they urged upon government to provide them with financial assistances.
