KABUL (SW): For the very first time, the Afghanistan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) Day was celebrated to commemorate the sacrifices of the security forces in defending the motherland.
President Ashraf Ghani, praising the dedication and sacrifices of the ANDSF, said the government is determined to provide better education and equipment to the defense and security forces to minimize causalities. “The more trained and better equipped our forces are the lesser will be their causalities, every year we are getting better in equipping our forces”, declared Ghani while addressing men in uniform at the Kabul military base.
Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), also called for supporting the security forces. Addressing a gathering at the Ministry of Defense (MoD), he said soldiers, policemen and intelligence officers need to be backed, well-equipped and trained. Gen. Abdullah Habibi, Minister of Defense, stressed professionalization, capacity building and transparency in the administration of the Ministry of Defense are top proprieties. “Our courageous soldiers are ready for the spring offensive against the insurgents”, vowed Habibi.
At the end of the ceremony, President Ghani awarded medals to the ANDSF men, and monetary assistance to the survivors and families of the fallen soldiers.
