
KABUL (SW) – The National Referral Mechanism and Online Database to Respond to Human Trafficking in Afghanistan was launched here on Sunday.
The move is in line with the National Referral Mechanism to Help Victims of Trafficking in Persons and Trafficked Migrants (NRM). It aims to support victims of the human trafficking, coordinate between the public and non-government entities in this regard.
Aman Reyazat, spokesman for the Ministry of Justice, told the gathering in this connection that the Database would gather and streamline all relevant information on the human traffickers as well as the victims.
Laurence Hart, country head of the International Organization of Migration, told the moot media, religious scholars and civil society can play pivotal role in combating the menace of human trafficking. He added the legal institutions and the police should also be trained to deal accordingly with the victims of trafficking.
He underlined the importance of swift delivery of justice to the victims.
The National Referral Mechanism to Help Victims of Trafficking in Persons and Trafficked Migrants (NRM) has been formed based on the Article 5 of the Law to Combat Human Trafficking and Trafficking of Migrants.
The IOM findings indicate a large number of victims are women and children.
