KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Defense announced that the Darqad district in Takhar has been completely cleared of "terrorists" this morning and that security forces had taken over the district administration.
A ministry statement issued today (Friday, October 25) said security forces had been conducting a joint clearing operation for several days in various parts of the district. According to the defense ministry, 50 Taliban were killed and dozens more were wounded in the operation, and some of the group's vehicles were also seized by the security forces.
The Taliban have not yet commented.
The Taliban had occupied the district of Daqad about two months ago.
In recent months, the districts of Darqad, Khwaje Ghar, Baharak and Chahab in Takhar have witnessed the Taliban’s raids and the insurgents seized some parts of the province for some time.
