KABUL (SW) – Mohammad Sarwar Danish, second Vice President, on Saturday stressed open legal proceedings are pivotal for confidence building and safeguarding the rights of the citizens.
He said this addressing a moot on “National Integrity Conference: Open Justice and Public Participation in Justice Institutions” here. He said this would also help with social justice, transparency and just legal system. The VP said steps have been taken to ensure delivery of justice and addressing public complaints in connection with the legal system.
Syed Ikram Afzali, chairman of Integrity Watch Organization, also underlined the importance of open legal proceedings, and added the legal entities should make the cases open after consultation with the parties involved. Afzali said there is a need for drastic reforms in the legal system, and these entities should be public-centered.
Article One Hundred Twenty-Eight of the Constitution says: In the courts in Afghanistan, trials shall be held openly and every individual shall have the right to attend in accordance with the law. In situations clarified by law, the court shall hold secret trials when it considers necessary, but pronouncement of its decision shall be open in all cases
