KABUL (SW) – Vice President Sarwar Danish has said female journalists continue to face harassment and denial of rights at work.
He was speaking at a moot titled ‘Women Journalists Conference – Opportunities and Challenges’ here on Thursday. In his remarks, Danish said the outdated norms and wrong interpretations of religion are the main reasons behind discriminations faced by female journalists in Afghanistan.
A female journalist, Waheeda Faizi, said on her term that the management of media houses are also complicit in sexual and verbal abuse. Sara Seerat, another female journalist, said the media houses pay lower levels of salaries and grant lesser rights to female journalists.
As per the findings of the Ministry of Information and Culture, lack of security and privileges have resulted to the fact that there is not a single female journalist in Paktika, Kunar, Uruzgan, Paktia, Logar and Nuristan provinces.
