EDINBURGH (SW): Officials of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) have met with Shashank Manohar, the independent chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to discuss the prospects for growth of the Afghan squad.
The meeting took place in Edinburgh, capital of Scotland where the Afghan team is set to take on the hosts for two One Day Internationals (ODIs) on July 4 and 6.
Nasimullah Danish, President of the ACB met with Shashank Manohar after the general meeting of the ICC. In a message, Danish expressed optimism that the fans would hear a good news in six months’ time.
The good news, in his view, is likely to be about the Afghan squad getting more international action and entry into the main league of cricket playing nations as a full member of the ICC.
The ACB Chief has added that during the meeting with the ICC Chairman, matters providing more international fixtures to Afghanistan and more financial and technical support for the cricket in Afghanistan were discussed.
Shashank Manohar, who has previously served as the head of the Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI), has appreciated the efforts made by ACB for the promotion and growth of cricket in Afghanistan.
The ICC is holding a week-long meeting in Edinburg that would discuss ways and means to promote the game. On the agenda include the ideas to award test status to at least two more countries, ensure 12 instead of 10 nations compete in the main round of 2018 T-20 World Cup and develop a league of 13 nations for the 50 over matches.
