KABUL (SW) – Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish on Wednesday hailed progress towards signing of a deal between the U.S. and Taliban.
Addressing a ceremony in connection with the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan, Danish said the deal between Washington and the Taliban would pave way for direct talks between the Afghan government and the insurgents. He added sustainable peace would remain a distant dream despite a ceasefire if the Taliban continued to keep ties with foreign terrorist groups.
Stressing upon the need to form an inclusive negotiation team, the vice president said the proposed reduction in violence may well lead to sustainable ceasefire.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Hadi Muslimyaar, speaker of the Masharano Jirga (upper house), said an inclusive stand from the government for the proposed peace talks with the Taliban is pivotal.
This comes as the Taliban and the U.S. have concluded talks in the Qatari capital, Doha amid reports of inking of the proposed deal at the end of February.
