JAWZJAN (SW): Qadir Malia, Jawzjan Deputy Provincial Council told Salam Watandar that the Amu River destroyed ten villages of districts of Qarqin and Khumab with their agricultural lands and their homes. He warned that if the government does not pay attention to this issue, the main road between Qarqin and Khumab will be closed completely due to destruction.
A number of residents in the districts of Qarqin and Khumab also accused the government of ignoring these districts.
According to them, the funds allocated for the consolidation of Amu River have been misused, and the Taliban have also stopped the working of one the projects in Khumab districts because they didn’t pay them bribe money.
Mohmmad Ali, head of water regulation for Jawzjan River, warned that if the government continues to neglect, some parts of the Jawzjan territory will be lost to Turkmenistan, although he does not acknowledge the misuse of funds allocated to Darya River.
Mohammad Raza Ghafoori, spokesperson for Jawzjan Governor, also confirmed that the destruction of the Amu River has increased more than in the past, but according to him, consolidation of the shores of Amu River is out of the power of the local government.
Other residents of the northern and northeastern provinces of the country have also repeatedly complained about the destruction of the Amu River and the government’s negligence; but effective and efficient work has not yet been done by either the central or the local government.
