13/02/2017

SHEBERGHAN (SW): Security officials in Jawzjan province claim the pro-Daesh rebels have set-up a private prison in the province.

Rehmatullah Turkistani, police chief of the province, told Salam Watnadar the rebels are recruiting militants for their ranks, and have kept the two abducted International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) employees among others in their first private prison in this province. He added a local militant commander Qari Hekmat is running this prison in the Chaqma Chor area of the Qosh Tapa district.

The Jawzjan police chief noted the pro-Daesh rebels have intensified recruitment campaigns in Jawzjan, Sar-i-Pul and Faryab provinces.

Locals in Jawzjan province are weary about the increasing clout of the militants.

There have been reports about some 650 families of the Uzbekistani and Pakistani militants being resettled in three Northern provinces by the son of Tahir Yoldosh, the slain leader of the Uzbekistan Islamic Movement (UIM). It is said these families have been settled in Faryab’s Bal Charagh and Garziwan districts, in Sar-e-Pul’s Sayad district, and in Jawzjan’s Darzab and Qosh Tapa districts.
