05/02/2018

JALALABAD (SW): Factions of the pro-Daesh militants and the Lashkar-e-Islam have engaged in deadly clashes in Nangarhar’s Achin district.

Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal, spokesman for the provincial governor, informed Salam Watandar that at least six pro-Daesh militants and three militants associated with the Lashkar-e-Islam faction got killed in these clashes since yesterday. He confirmed these clashes erupted a day earlier, and ended yesterday.

Malik Kameen, a local elder in the restive district, has claimed the militants of both groups are still armed, and ready to resume clashes. He claimed serious differences have emerged between the two groups that can cause more deadly clashes.

Another local man who wished not to be named told Salam Watandar on phone that the differences between Daesh and LI fighters emerged ten days ago.

In a separate development, 25 pro-Daesh militants are reported killed in a U.S. drone strike on their hideouts in Achin district’s Momand Dara area. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal, spokesman for the governor, has confirmed it.

The militants have not commented on this so far.
